Has anyone been reading Thunderbolts?

I just picked up the first trade with Penance on the team. It was interesting but I guess I find it hard to equate Speedie and Penance as the same individual...

I was reading the old New Warriors scans that liliaeth put up on Scans Daily and Robbie was so different and sure he's always been half pie goofball with lashings of sensitive kid in there but I just don't see how that Robbie could have evolved into this Penance. Maybe Nova was right to wash his hands of the lot, heh.

Anyway, anyone else have an opinion either way? Penance - good, bad or indifferent?

I don't much like Penance, though I generally do have faith in Warren Ellis' abilities to write good stories. If there's anyone who can make something even halfway decent out of Penance it's Ellis.

But i'd still like to have the old Robbie back.

Oh, I like Ellis' writing on it, very tight. Big Ellis Authority fan here. I hope too that he can make something of Penance.
